The Basics
Name: Alphonse Elric Alias: (Nickname) Al Age: 14 (Almost 15) Gender: Male Sibling: Edward Elric
Rank: Citizen of London
Appearance
Alphonse stands at around 5'5 in height with a slim yet slightly athletic build. He has short light brown hair, with a somewhat messy fringe, he used to have his hair long and in a ponytail but he cut it short again, preferring it that way. His eyes are a light greyish blue, whilst his skin is perhaps just a little bit paler than most but not so much that it is noticeable. Alphonse usually wears a white shirt with a green overcoat, brown trousers and a pair of black shoes, having had to change his attire when he arrived on earth so that he would not stand out.
Personality
Alphonse has a very sweet nature, willing to help anyone if they need it, if at all possible. He is a very determined young man, and when he sets his mind to do something there is no turning back, he will always finish what he has set out to achieve, a desirable trait. Whilst Alphonse will usually back down in most fights, usually through wishing to keep the peace, there are occasions when even he has to draw the line and fight back. Even as he has grown older he still has a weakness for stray animals, still wanting to help them. He is kind and gentle to those around him, always greeting people with a friendly smile, but even Al can become angered if someone pushes him too far, but it is a rare occurrence.
Alphonse’s relationship with his brother is very close, and there is no one in the world more important to him than Edward, he will do anything for him and still worries about his safety more often than not. There are times when he will still argue with his older brother, but that is what brothers do.
History
Alphonse was born in a small town named Risembool, where he lived with his older brother, Edward and his mother Trisha Elric, Alphonse’s father left them when he was still very young and he has very little memory of him. Alphonse and his brother learned alchemy from the books that their father had left behind and became quite accomplished at it, showing off their works to their mother who never failed to praise them. However their mother fell ill and unfortunately died apparently of a sickness that she had been dealing with for some time, but she had never told anyone. Pinako Rockbell decided to look after the boys, treating them as if they were her own grandchildren. During that time, the brothers concentrated on studying alchemy in hopes of bringing their mother back to life and were able to train with a skilled alchemist named Izumi Curtis. When they returned home from their training, they proceeded to try the taboo art of Human transmutation but failed costing Edward his left leg, and Alphonse his entire body. Edward performed a second transmutation, sacrificing his own right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a nearby suit of armour.
It was a short while after this that Edward decided to have himself fitted with auto-mail in order to travel to Central to meet with Mustang in order to become a state alchemist, and return Alphonse to his body. Edward did indeed become a state alchemist, and Alphonse and his brother started searching for the legendary ‘Philosopher’s stone’ a stone that would allow an alchemist to bypass all the laws of equivalent exchange, and get something for nothing, a stone that Edward and Alphonse intended to use to get their bodies back to the way they had been before. They spent four long years searching for the stone, and ended up finding it, but not quite in the way that they had expected. In a strange twist of events, Alphonse was turned into the Philosopher’s stone, and was eventually captured by the Homunculi, who’s master wished to use Alphonse to switch to another body, which she had been doing for four hundred years. Edward was killed by the Homunculus named envy, and Alphonse sacrificed his own life to bring Edward back to life.
After reawakening, Edward found that he had his original limbs back, but once he realised that Alphonse had given his life to bring him back he once again attempted a human transmutation to bring his brother back whole, body, mind and soul he was successful but he was forced to the other side of the gate, never knowing if Alphonse had been brought back or not. Alphonse was returned to his body, but it was his ten years old body, and he had no memory of the four years after which he and Edward had attempted the transmutation of their mother. He asked Izumi Curtis, his old teacher, if she would train him again, and she agreed.
Two years passed and Alphonse was still in search of his older brother, sure that he was still alive somewhere, having dreams of him where he was seventeen and they built rockets together. An apparent attack in Liore was stopped for the most part by Alphonse who transferred a portion of his soul into a few of the armoured ‘men’ that had risen from a hole within the ground where a transmutation circle had appeared. It was after this that Alphonse saw his brother again, but not as himself, he was asleep back home in Winry’s house, and he was seeing everything through the eyes of the armour he had transferred his soul to, armour that was identical to the one he had been bound to for four years. He was of course ecstatic to see his brother once again, but could not get over how much he had changed, unfortunately their time together was not long, and Alphonse awoke again, the transmutation on the armour wearing off.
Alphonse knowing now that his brother was alive and well, attempted to bring him back to his world by opening a gate for him, only after the sacrifice of Wrath’s life and Gluttony’s was the gate opened permanently. However Alphonse had no idea that a woman named Eckhart had plans to invade his home world, and that he had provided her with the gate she needed to achieve her goal. Feeling overwhelming guilt Alphonse ran away from his brother who had newly passed through the gate in a rocket powered ship, leaving Edward calling after him. It was only later when his brother caught up to him that Edward explained that everyone shared the blame for the destruction that was going on around them and not just Alphonse. Realising that he and his brother had to stop the woman, they teamed up and with some help from Roy Mustang managed to stop Eckhart. Edward left to go back to the other world, leaving Alphonse screaming at him, but what Edward did not know was that Alphonse had snuck aboard the ship and hidden inside a suit of armour, one that looked exactly like the last. It was only when Edward got back and Alphonse spoke to him through the armour before pushing the head off revealing that he was inside, that he finally knew. He was at first a little concerned that his brother had followed him, but Alphonse was adamant that no matter what, he wanted to stay by his brother’s side.

My best Alphonse post, it's armour Al but it's still Al
The rain was heavier again, lashing down on Al’s body, sending a thunderous rattling sound through his being, it was so dense now that he could barely see what was in front of him, like walking through the mist up on the mountains. Did it never stop raining in the place? It seemed to have been raining like this for hours and it felt as though he had been walking for that long too. He was exhausted, more mentally than physically, the whole evening having been a drain on his senses, what few he had anyway, and he wished he could rest, but that wasn’t an option right now, he had to get his brother somewhere safe, somewhere dry.
Ed had hardly said a word since he had placed him on his back to prevent him from having to walk anymore, he held tightly to his brothers legs, making sure that he wouldn’t fall off. The silence worried him, to the extent that he had sped up his pace a fair amount, though trying his hardest not to jolt Ed around too much. He had made the odd comment, a few light murmurs before he just went silent altogether, and the fact that he could not see him to check if he was alright only made it worse, but he was sure he was breathing at least...even if he didn’t seem to be conscious. “Don’t worry brother...I’ll find somewhere” he said softly scouring each side of the street for somewhere they could stay, there had to be somewhere, somewhere that would let them in without payment? He would beg if necessary.
Stopping under a shop awning Al looked around again, using the few moments of dryness to try and pinpoint somewhere, did this city have nothing but shops? Surely there was a boarding house or something? A hotel? He sighed deeply, becoming more anxious as he felt Ed shift slightly on his back, was he even conscious? Damn it, why could you never find something when it was important?! Moving out from the awning Al sped up his pace again, his armour clanking in the rain, he’d be lucky not to rust at this rate, the sooner he got dry the better too. “Hold on Ed...” he said, his voice breaking somewhat, showing his worry, he would have asked for help, stopped someone in the street, but what would be the point of that? They would just ignore him like they had before, he hated it here, why couldn’t they just go home? At least people would help them there.
Right when he was beginning to think that he would never find somewhere, the bright lights of the Trillian Hotel shone in the darkness, their luminescent glow brightening the dull grey the rain had formed. Al gasped slightly, before running towards the light, still holding his brother tightly, he would be out of the rain soon, and they would have a place to stay. Pushing the hotel doors open with his left arm, he entered the foyer, looking around as water dripped from his armour onto the plush red carpeting. A few of the hotel guests that were sat in the lobby gasped with fright as he entered, some complaining others wondering who he was exactly and why he was carrying someone on his back, but Al didn’t care about their words, he only cared about Ed right now...he was always more important.
“Um...can I help you?” Al turned around to see a young woman with long brown hair standing behind him, a half smile on her lips. She was curious as to why he was wearing armour for a start, but she was also wondering what was wrong with the person he was carrying. Al stared at her for a moment before noting that she was wearing a name tag, was she one of the people that worked here? “Please...we need a room, my brother....” his words were flustered and the young girl frowned slightly before smiling again. “Come on, lets see what we’ve got you can put him down in a chair for the moment if you’d like” the girl smiled in a friendly manner. Al nodded his head to her in thanks and walked over to the side of the foyer stopping in front of a chair, he turned his back to it, releasing his grip on Ed slowly, letting him slide down his back before he eventually landed in the chair.
Al made sure he was alright before he went back to the desk the young girl still smiling as she began to serve him. “Welcome to the Trillian Hotel, I’m Rebecca, how may I help you today?” she said, her voice soft and sweet. Al really wished he could smile now, she was polite, and at least trying to be helpful unlike most of the people they had met tonight. He was about to answer her when a very loud booming voice sounded across the room. “OUT! GET OUT OF MY HOTEL!” a large man approached the desk waving his arms about, obviously annoyed at Al’s presence. “What did I do?” asked Al, wondering why he was being shouted at when he hadn’t done anything. The man glared at him, sticking his nose into the air as he regarded him. “I will not have scruffy people in my hotel, get out and take your friend with you!” his voice was stern, and held very little care to it.
Scruffy? Since when was he scruffy, he was a giant suit of armour, how was that scruffy? He looked across to Ed who was still seemingly passed out in the chair before he looked back at the man, he was definitely the manager, it was the only thing he could be. “My brother needs somewhere to stay!” he said defiantly in response, his eyes moving to Rebecca for a moment before glancing back at the manager. Rebecca sighed and frowned, this was not way to treat a guest, even one that was dressed from head to toe in armour, it was....unusual to say the least, but then unusual could sometimes be a good thing. “Sir, I was going to give them a room...” she spoke up after a few moments, she was normally quite a shy person, but she was willing to speak her mind today. The manager looked to her and slammed his fist down on the desk, obviously angry that she was trying to help them. “Miss Hughes, kindly remember that I am the manager!” he said.
